Now that we are in the throes of the holiday season, this can sometimes be a hot potato when deciding whose holiday request to approve first whilst balancing your team's expectations, so we wanted to share with you our Top 5 Tips in managing team holidays.
Tip 1: Make sure that you have a Holiday Policy in place which enables you to standardise your holiday management process and set an expectation with your team as to how their holiday requests will be managed. It also shows that you are applying a fair and equitable process.
Tip 2: Operate on a first come, first served basis for holiday requests as this is usually the fairest way to manage a situation where there may be a number of employees requesting to take holiday at the same time.
Tip 3: Make sure that you have a reliable system in place to record all holiday requests and accurately calculate how much time an employee has outstanding if requested.
Tip 4: Make sure that you have a minimum notice period for which employees must request their holiday. This will help with planning for cover whilst they are on holiday.
Tip 5: Make sure that you review holiday bookings on a regular basis so that you can ensure that employees are using their holiday throughout the year otherwise you could fall fowl of the Working Time Regulations if your employees don't use their holiday entitlement during your holiday year.
Our fab Cloud based HR software solution will fully automate your holiday booking and enable you to monitor your team's holiday balance throughout the year.
